This year, Performing Arts Centre Eskus presents the festival’s keynote address, which, like the festival programme, is themed around conflict.
Is the word ‘conflict’ in itself really just a euphemism that requires us never to take any real risks? Why do we constantly put off conflict? Is our art, in fact, always bound by structures, even when we believe we are doing something alternative? And what would happen if, instead of acting out of a sense of virtue in art, we were to create from a place of conviction?
Through this keynote, Susanna Hast, writer and docent of artistic research, aims to challenge us to ask ourselves these questions and explore what the relationship between conflict and artistic risk-taking truly entails.
