The board of Hangö Teaterträff has elected Kristin Helgaker as the festival’s new Managing Director. She started her work on 28 October 2024. Helgaker replaces Inkeri Rönnberg and will be responsible for the realisation of the festival together with the artistic directors, the festival team and the festival volunteers.
“I look forward to the job as Hangö Teaterträff’s Managing Director with great joy and humility. It will be exciting and very rewarding to work, together with a fantastic team, with the most prestigious and progressive performing arts festival in Swedish-speaking Finland! This summer’s festival offers a smart and diverse programme that I believe will tickle the curiosity and engagement of a wide audience. The festival’s artistic directors, Emelie Zilliacus and Martin Paul, have curated a colourful programme with something interesting for everyone,” says Helgaker.
Helgaker is a cultural producer who has worked in the Finnish performing arts field since 2008. She has coordinated MasQue – International Mask Theatre Festival for Teatteri Metamorfoosi in collaboration with Stoa, Helsinki, and New Theatre Helsinki Festival in collaboration with Svenska Teatern. She has also worked for several years for DuvTeatern and Reprum, and has done shorter assignments for Teater Mestola and Teater Universum. Like many other producers, Helgaker began her career in the fragmented world of performing arts working groups, such as the one-hit-wonder Anatomia Ensemble, which toured Europe with the wordless puppet and object theatre performance Anatomia Lear.
Born in Norway, Helgaker has lived in several countries before falling in love with Finland and moving here. After twenty years in Kallio, Helsinki, she now lives in the forest between the metro lines in eastern Helsinki.
