HYDDA – a living installation about residing in a fascinating, fragile and sometimes disgusting body.

The word “hydda” is used in Swedish both as a word for a house/dwelling and to describe body and body mass. What does it mean to be a body? What does a body consist of? Where is the line between our own body and other bodies? How can our imagination shape and redefine our understanding of body and space?

The installation acts as an oasis and living room for the younger visitors throughout the festival. Through tactile, sensory and audiovisual elements, HYDDA offers a space for questions about the body as something funny, imaginative, fragile, delightful and sticky.

At specific moments, the installation comes to life in different ways. During these moments, we’ll get to meet the characters Hull, Hair and Slime who have moved in – and enjoy their performances!

The installation comes to life at the following times in the form of a performance:
Friday TBA: Slime Concert with Hull
Friday TBA: Slime Concert with Hull
Saturday 11:00–11:40 am: Workshop with Slime
Saturday 3:00–3:30 pm: At Home with Hull, Hair and Slime

The performances are free of charge.

Content warnings:
The installation includes flour and scents.

4 FLOORS OF HORSES is a Helsinki-based theater collective consisting of Emilia Jansson, Herman Nyby, Astrid Stenberg and Riku-Pekka Kellokoski. The group’s aesthetics and methods lie at the intersection of physical theater, contemporary choreography, sound art and performance art – spiced with layers of humor, compassion and obscenity. The group’s previous works include THE CHURCH, ENFANT TERRIBLE and NIXXXAVUORI. This is the first time the group has focused on creating a work for children, creating a unique work that explores how the group’s practice can engage with a younger audience.

Siri Bertling Kara is an artist based in Stockholm, Sweden. Bertling Kara holds an MA in Performing Arts from Stockholm University of the Arts (2021) and a BA in Fine Arts from KMD/Bergen (2019) and works mainly with text, performance and installation, with a tendency towards the immersive and participatory format. Bertling Kara works independently and freelances as an artist, director, performer, curator, set designer and educator.

Astrid Stenberg is an actor, artist, writer and singer based in Helsinki. Stenberg graduated from the Theatre Academy’s program in acting in 2021. A large part of Stenberg’s work is done as part of the theater collective 4 FLOORS OF HORSES. In addition, Stenberg has also worked as a freelance actor and educator.

Riku-Pekka Kellokoski is a sound designer and composer currently based in Tampere, Finland. He holds a master’s degree in arts (theater and drama) from Uniarts Helsinki. In his work for theater and contemporary dance, sound serves as a dramaturgical and scenographic framework around actions and affects.
