It’s time to raise a toast to art as poetry magazine Kontradiktion celebrates the release of issue #5!

Friday’s celebration features performance and poetry as Kontradiktion presents a selection of video works from its newest issue at Brankis. They will also present the interactive performance work Skuggspel variation (Shadow Play Variation), where artist group SKUGGORNA explores the subject of shadows in an investigative voice performance together with the audience. The language of the performance is Swedish, but language is not a determining factor for participation.

The festival audience can also explore the issue’s contents on their own throughout the festival. The installation is available from Friday to Sunday at our festival centre in Kulturmagasinet.

Tidskriften Kontradiktion is a digital journal that is published 1–2 times a year and publishes poetry works of high literary quality. Kontradiktion is the only platform in Swedish-speaking Finland that focuses on interdisciplinary poetic works. The works published include video poetry, essay films, audio works, poetic games, audio dramas and hypertext artworks.

The contributors come from all Nordic countries and the works are in different languages. Each issue consists of contributions selected mainly through an open call. In addition, each issue includes a matchmaking contribution, where Kontradiktion’s editorial team brings together actors for an interartistic creation. Each issue has two editors, who in 2025 will alternate between Hilda Forss, Anders E Larsson and Heidi von Wright.

SKUGGORNA works as a group based on a continuous exchange in the form of text, image, video and audio. Thematically, they explore the subject of shadows from all its angels. The group consists of artist and poet Hanna Monola, poet Charlotte Qvandt, musician, photographer and social scientist Azra Arnautović, artist Sofie Carlson and visual artist and poet Alexandra Marina.

Kontradiktion is supported by Konstsamfundet, Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, Tre Smeder and HSS.
