In her presentation at Hangö Teaterträff, America Vera-Zavala shares methods, experiences and reflections on working with community theatre and how performing arts can be used to address Islamophobia and make it visible.

America Vera-Zavala is a playwright, director, author, cultural writer and activist. She made her debut as a playwright in 2007, invited by Lars Norén for a project on labour and the new Europe. America wrote her first play about undocumented workers. Since 2007, she has written some thirty plays and since 2016 she has also directed what is known as community theatre.

Her latest play Sammanflätade, which centred on the subject of illegal adoptions from Chile, has just finished its run at Dramaten in Stockholm. For several years, America has written and directed on the subject of Muslims and hatred of Muslims. Her play Svenska Hijabis from 2016 was widely acclaimed and is available as a TV play on UR Play as Scener ur Svenska Hijabis.
