FUTURES is a project that explores the term speculative fiction. What is it and what could it be in dramatic writing? Speculative fiction refers to texts that play out in imaginary realities, texts that mirror past, future, invisible, or fictional worlds. Speculative fiction includes genres such as fantasy, science fiction, utopias, dystopias, and alternative histories, as well as supernatural and apocalyptic stories.
The project aims to develop artistic writing and the dramatic form through collective processes by exploring how, in terms of speculative fiction, new tools, themes, and ways of working can make use of the features inherent to performing arts.
FUTURES consists of two workshops, held in Helsinki during spring 2023, and an open workshop and demo held at Hangö Teaterträff.
